Staff and Leadership

Please find below an introduction to our church leaders and members of staff.

Johnny Holland   Rafael Escossia
Johnny Holland (Pastor & Overseer)   Rafael Escossia (Youth & Family Ministry Leader & Overseer)
Johnny is married to Evonne and together they are proud parents to Harry and Sam. As pastor Johnny loves to be a companion to people who are on a journey of responding to Jesus’ invitation to follow him. What this looks like is conversing and praying with people and bringing the Word of God (the Bible). Not fixing problems but pointing to way markers and tell-tale signs of God’s presence and activity in their lives. Johnny loves spending time with his family and enjoying walks in the mountains. He is a keen reader and painter and loves to cook!   Rafa is passionate about the Bible and has a great heart for sharing the good news with those around him. Rafa is the Youth and Family leader at SBC and is enjoying the opportunity to serve in this way. He is married to Dani and they have two kids, the twins Amelie and Dylan. They all love to travel, camping, and even hiking.

Hazel-Ann Pigott (Church Administrator)   Everyone
Hazel Pigott serves as the Administrator at Swords Baptist Church. She has been doing this job for about 15 years with a break of a few years when her boys were very small. She is married to Neville and they have been blessed with two 'great lads' Noah and Toby. She loves that her job gives her the chance to be in regular contact with so many of the family at SBC, organising rotas, putting on events, writing newsletters and so much more. Hazel feels very privileged that her job has so much meaning and that's where she gets most of her job satisfaction as
she rarely gets to the end of her to do list. She looks forward to meeting you if you come and visit SBC which she hopes you do after you browse the website.
We believe everyone in the church has a role to play by using their gifts to serve the church. In Ephesians 4:11 & 12 we find the apostle Paul pointing out that Jesus gifted His church "apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers to equip his people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up"

We want to see all people in the church helped and encouraged to discover, develop and exercise their gifts to minister "until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God" (v. 13)

Jesse Northcutt (Overseer)                   Pat O'Reilly (Overseer)
Jesse, one of the overseers at Swords Baptist Church, is married to Joyce. They are parents to six adult children and seventeen grandchildren.  Jesse loves to spend time with people in our community through volunteer involvement in a local charity shop and golfing with friends as member of Swords Golf Club. Along with drinking lots of great coffee he likes to read and write on his blog as an inspiration and encouragement to others. Jesse currently serves as one of the lecturers at the Opened Bible Academy (Europe), an online Bible school.  Several of Jesse and Joyce’s children and grandchildren live here in Ireland and they love to spend time with them whenever they can.   Pat is one of the overseers at Swords Baptist Church. He is married to Imelda, and they have 3 adult children and 6 grandchildren. In 1998 while living in South Africa, they received a copy of Dallas Willard’s book, the Divine Conspiracy, from a friend in Ireland. His teaching on what it meant to be a follower of Jesus had a profound impact on them. Pat had sensed a gap between his own experience of life with Jesus and what the Bible had promised. This was the beginning of a journey to discover what it means to follow Jesus and to experience the life he had promised.

On returning to Ireland, they met with Maryann Steffy and later with Linda Wagner and they were introduced to the whole idea of change from the inside out. They enrolled in the various courses at the Bellwether Counselling Centre and the experience was life transforming.

Ever since, they have sought to pursue what has been described as authentic spiritual transformation. They enjoy travelling, walking and spending time with the family.
Dave and Leanne   Joanne Mahon
David Hegarty (Servant)                                                                                 Joanne Mahon (Servant)
David is one of the servants at Swords Baptist Church. He is married to Leanne, and they are parents to two young boys, Luke & Seth. David has been attending SBC since he was 7 years old. Over the years he has helped with Easter Camps, Sunday school, our teens group and with the Sound team on a Sunday morning. David is likely to be found playing Lego, watching F1 or enjoying time with his family and friends.

I am Joanne Mahon and have been part of Swords Baptist Church for 25 years now.

I was born in Vancouver Canada. I became a follower of Jesus when I was 18 at a summer camp. Looking back I’m aware of God drawing me to himself for many years before that time. I am amazed at how He deals with each of us so uniquely. I had a rocky start to my Christian journey with no home church to guide me along.

During the summer of 1979 I came to Ireland on a summer mission with a group from bible college. During that time I recognized God's guidance and a pull to work in church planting here in Ireland. I moved to Dublin in 1982 and haven’t looked back!

I married Laz Mahon, a Carlow man, in 1987. I am now the full time carer for my husband who has numerous health issues.

God has given me a great love and passion for this local church, Swords Baptist Church. I was employed by SBC for 10 years in pastoral care where I felt I was doing what I was born to do -a great joy! I continue in my passion for the church.

I am delighted to serve SBC in the role of servant,

Geoff   mike and pam
Geoff Caplin (Servant)   Pam Robinson (Servant)
Geoff, one of the servants at Swords Baptist Church, has been married to Debbie for 42 years and they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. In 1997 he recommitted his life to the Lord and has been on a journey since then as a disciple of Jesus, learning to live in the kingdom of God.

He has a heart for prison ministry and loves serving in the local church.

For downtime he enjoys reading, DIY projects, mountain biking and spending time with his loved ones, who live overseas.
Pam, married to Mike, is one of the servants at SBC.   They are parents to three adult daughters, two of whom still live at home.  Pam works in administration at one of the Dublin hospitals and finds this role challenging both mentally and with time resources, and (mostly) rewarding.  They have both been involved in the Music ministry and worship leading in SBC for several years. Pam is a firm believer that everyone in the Church has a part to play, big or small and would encourage all believers to seek and use their gifting in an area that rejoices their heart.  When not in her garden or brunching with her girls Pam likes meeting up 1 to 1 for a cuppa or having folk round for a meal, or Bar-B-Q  or heading off for a hike. She's also delighted to get a call to help someone with a practical DIY challenge.. Sometimes there's just not enough hours... "
peggie   tega
Peggie Du Preez (Servant)   Tega Adogbeji (Servant)
Peggie serves at Swords Baptist Church and has been an active member for the past four years. Originally from South Africa, she and her family moved to Ireland six years ago. She is married to Glenn, and they have two children, Max and Emma. During her time at SBC, Peggie has been involved in Sunday School, Easter Camp, Kids Club, and Summer Camp. She is passionate about teaching the next generation about God's love. In her free time, she enjoys a good cup of coffee and exploring authentic cuisine.   Tega is one of the servants at Swords Baptist Church. She is married to Sam, and they are parents to three children, Rukky, Justin and Jacinta. Tega loves serving in the kitchen at SBC and she is involved in leading the house fellowship group in Rush. She is passionate about the bible and loves sharing with others about her walk with God and His transforming power.
She also loves cooking, watching videos on simple living and travelling with  family.
kith Lorraine
Keith Kingston (Servant)
Keith, one of the servants at Swords Baptist Church, is married to Lorraine and they have 3 children, Emily (19), Andrew (17) and Seán (13). He has a passion for seeing the local church develop and live out their mission and vision, particularly in the area of discipleship, helping people grow deeper in their faith.

Keith is a self confessed sports fanatic with Manchester United, Munster and Cork among his favourite teams! He recently joined Swords Golf Club and enjoys meeting and playing with fellow golfers in the weekly competitions. He also loves to travel with his family exploring new places and cultures and creating special memories.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at The Riasc Centre Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:45 am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to ensure you get a parking space and find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:45 am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of corporate worship and singing, led by our band. We typically have 2 or 3 songs lasting approximately 15 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a  passage from the Bible. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is Bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. We then finish with a final worship song.

What about my kids?

We have a great programme lined up for kids of all ages:

  • Creche (0 months to 3 years). Children under 12 months are welcome but must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • Kidzone Juniors (Junior, Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Class )
  • Kidzone Middle (3rd and 4th Class)
  • Kidzone Seniors (5th and 6th Class)
  • Impact Xtra (Secondary School age students)

Children stay with their parent or guardian at the start of the service for the welcome, songs and notices. We really value worshiping God all together as a family. At the end of the notices someone will announce that it’s time for the younger members to go to their various groups.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, Bible stories, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

Home Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Serving and Volunteering

If you want to get involved in the life of the church and help us make Sundays run smoothly, you can sign up to serve on a team.
